Stephen Webster's Mosquito Rings Sell Out in Record Time on ASOS.com

.
100% of the profits from the rings will be used to support the charity Malaria No More UK

London
- Stephen Webster’s limited edition mosquito rings are officially this winter’s hottest accessory after selling out on ASOS in under three hours – a new record for the online fashion store. The rings, as seen on the fingers of Victoria Beckham and Erin O'Connor, are now expected to become lasting collectors’ pieces.

Webster, famed for his originality and cutting-edge designs, was originally commissioned by Malaria Awareness Campaign to create a piece of jewellery to highlight the serious issue of malaria among UK travellers and to raise funds for Malaria No More UK. Webster responded to the brief with characteristic flair and glam-rock creativity with a one-of-a-kind fine jewel mosquito ring on sale now for ca. £15K and 660 limited edition replicas, which sold out exclusively on ASOS, at £50 each.

Stephen Webster’s fine jewellery piece, £15k

100% of the profits from the rings will be used to support Malaria No More UK’s first investment in Africa. The project is in Botswana, southern central Africa, where the national government has set an aggressive target to fully eliminate malaria by 2015. Malaria No More UK is supporting this effort and thanks to ASOS customers who purchased a replica ring, life-saving nets will be given out to households who do not yet have one. The nets cost just £5 and protect a mother and her child for up to five years.

Stephen Webster said: “The mosquito ring is both a statement and provocative piece. Yet the message behind the ring has touched everyone who has bought it, of which there are now 660. We are delighted for Malaria No More UK. We made a commitment to fight malaria and we are doing so, one ring at a time.”

Webster’s fine jewellery ring will be sold to the highest private bidder with anticipated retail price of £15K and all proceeds going to Malaria No More UK. The striking piece is fashioned in rhodium plated 18ct white gold, set with ruby cabochons, white diamond pave wings, a silver diamond tail and a black diamond band.

To place a bid for the original fine jewel ring, contact Roz Hunt via info@malarianomore.org.uk. The fine jewel ring is also available for photography. Contact carly@stephenwebster.com to organise.

Victoria Beckham said: “It’s a fabulous statement piece and I’ve loved wearing it. It’s inspiring to see designers like Stephen working the power of fashion to save lives. Malaria is such an important issue, killing more children under five in Africa than any other single disease. I’m crossing my fingers this collaboration will generate loads of buzz and funds for Malaria No More UK.”

Sarah Kline, Executive Director of Malaria No More UK says: “We have been overwhelmed by the response to our first collaboration which will help save thousands of lives in Africa. I hope this project will also act as an important reminder to UK travellers to check whether they need to protect themselves against malaria as they head off for winter holidays.”

Malaria is one of the world’s most serious, preventable health crises and threatens half the world’s population with pregnant women and children the most vulnerable. In the UK, some 1,500 - 2,000 travellers return every year having contracted the disease. For more information about malaria and how you can protect yourself, please visit: www.malarianomore.org.uk and www.malariahotspots.co.uk. To find out if your next holiday destination is a malaria hotspot, text the destination to 07800 000 571.

About Malaria No More UK

Malaria No More UK is committed to ending suffering and death caused by malaria, a preventable disease. Working with governments, corporations and the public, Malaria No More UK combines a powerful blend of funding, advocacy and popular campaigning to achieve the following UN goals:

1) Ensure every man, women and child at risk of malaria in Africa has access to a mosquito net by the end of 2010

2) Put an end to malaria deaths completely by 2015

A £5 donation to Malaria No More UK will purchase, transport and deliver a life-saving bed net to a mother and her child in Africa protecting them for up to five years. 100% funds received by Malaria No More UK are used for malaria prevention and control programmes in Africa. For more information and to donate visit: www.malarianomore.org.uk

ASOS.com Launches Twitter Feedback and Reviews Site, asosreviews.com

.

Customers can now publicly give their opinion of ASOS, in realtime, at http://www.asosreviews.com

LONDONASOS.com, the UK’s leading online fashion store, has launched ASOSreviews.com, an exciting Twitter-powered feedback and reviews micro-site. The site follows ASOS.com’s hugely successful launch of ASOS Life, an online community that facilitates interaction and conversation between the brand and its consumers.

James Hart, eCommerce Director at ASOS.com, said ‘ASOSreviews.com is a great way for us to keep in touch with and be open about the real-time feelings of our customers. Its bright, visual nature gives us nowhere to hide and I’ll be making it not only visible to our customers but to all of our colleagues at ASOS HQ as well. It’s also a great feedback tool and the great thing is that the loop is already closed as our customer care team already monitor and respond to tweets directed at us 24/7. We are excited about the launch of the site and have some interesting plans for its future development.’

ASOSreviews.com aggregates and displays positive and negative tweets about the brand, and encourages users to tweet their opinion about their ASOS.com experience. The site also visualises the overall sentiment of the brand and displays an interesting word cloud overview of what people are saying.

Charles Dalton-Moore, Managing Director of thruSITES, the social media development firm that built the site, said ‘ASOSreviews.com is designed to give a snapshot of customer sentiment on ASOS.com whilst encouraging ASOS.com’s online community to engage with and talk about the brand. We very much admire ASOS.com’s boldness in launching the site and taking the leading social media approach of any fashion retailer. ASOS Unveils its Spring/Summer 2009 Menswear Collection

For S/S 09, the ASOS menswear design team has been looking towards the two strongest over-riding influences of the moment – PREPPY and PSYCHEDELIA.

London, United Kingdom: The online fashion store, ASOS.com, today revealed its menswear collection for spring and summer of 2009 at a central London location to UK and international media.

Preppy Tec

Psych Out

Ian Bryder, Head of Menswear Design, asos.com, comments, “For our Preppy trend – which we’ve christened ‘Preppy Tec’ – we’re presenting a sharp, contemporary take on the classic American Ivy League look but with a softer, more colourful palette, influenced by the Italian Paninaro scooter gangs that influenced terrace fashions of the 80’s and 90’s.

“Classic men’s casualwear pieces from button-down shirts and chinos to sweatshirts and nylon technical jackets are given modern makeovers to create a highly wearable, yet very on-trend look.

“The current psychedelic influence of bands such as festival favourites MGMT, shows itself in our other trend - which we’re calling ‘Psych Out’. Hippy-era cultural references and ethnic accessories from full-moon party holidays clash with the more streetwise west coast surf dropout style of our other favourite band of the moment, Iglu and Hartley.”

Festival season essentials and summer holiday favourites such as denim shorts, printed vests, hoodies and cargos are updated into patchwork-checked fabrics and dip-dyed finishes for that ‘hanging out in Venice Beach’ look with full-on tie-dyed pieces for the most brave out there.

Collegiate takes a new direction, fusing the classic all-American preppy look with urban sportswear influences to create a sharper, more contemporary feel. 'Ivy League' shirts and college sweats are updated with fresh re-worked and de-constructed graphics whilst styling them with technical jackets, slim chinos and formal shorts, offering a modern twist to a classic look.

Preppy Tec

Fusing casual and formal elements, this collection draws inspiration from an eclectic mix of influences from the soul boys of the Style Council era to 'Paninaro' subculture references. The dominant candy-bright palette is updated with a sleek background set against grey sportswear and neutral chino-style trousers.

Key pieces include lightweight nylon hooded jackets, flat fronted formal shorts and button-down shirts. Accessories are paramount to this look with Wayfarer style sunglasses, Italian tassle loafers and the raffia trilby, all working together to create this silhouette.

A fusion of social influences, Psych Out combines 1980's California surf culture with the techno hippy festival scene to create a bold new way of dressing. Not for the faint-hearted, this trend offers escapism in the form of psychedelia, tie-dye, dip-dye and vintage bold brights.

Psych Out

This story embodies youth culture with techno hippy festival influences. Shorts are key to this trend and are offered in patchwork, bold coloured checks and loud printed beach and board styles. The palette is softened with the introduction of washed brights adding a mature and vintage feel to this statement trend. Cut and sew detailing adds interest to jersey and outerwear pieces alike.

Top-to-toe accessories are fundamental to the overall look; colour block and printed plimsoles, ethnic style headbands and bandanas work together with embroidered and leather bracelets and belts to complete the look.

asos.com Enlists Experts To Create Limited Edition Products For Sale.

Rare or hard-to-find denim, vinyl, trainers and sunglasses to form part of asos.com ’s innovative ‘Untitled’ initiative.

London: ‘Untitled’ is the innovative new menswear project initiated by online retailer asos.com. Developed from the idea that limited edition products captivate men, ‘Untitled’ invites experts in denim, vinyl, trainers, sunglasses and new designers, to collate, and then offer to asos.com, a series of rare, hard-to-find or limited edition products for sale. The project propels menswear forward on asos.com and highlights some of the current creativity in men’s fashion and lifestyle products.

Denim expert Neil Christopher was eager to offer his services to asos.com. As a denim addict, Christopher has traveled America sourcing denim for hip stores in New York and Japan. Having worked for denim giants Boxfresh, Carhartt, North Sails and Levi’s, he now develops garments for radical denim brand Kato. For ‘Untitled’, Christopher has hand-selected exclusive Kato pieces especially for the collection and all are offered numbered and in small quantities.

Kato 5-pocket jeans: £240

Limited edition sunglasses always cause limited edition envy, so asos.com invited expert Fraser Laing to offer his vision for the project. Archiv, Laing’s company was set up in 1997 to sell exclusive vintage eyewear. As Laing explains, “Since then there have been two main rules in pursuit of that goal. One; always keep eyewear which is emblematic of Arckiv’s style, and two; never sell anything which isn’t well designed or well made.” For the ‘Untitled’ project, Laing has selected contemporary limited edition styles along with vintage frames such as the 5317, which was worn by iconic jazz musician Herbie Hancock in1986.

Vintage Carrera sunglasses: £95-£450

Rare vinyl has become something of a style status symbol and vinyl authority Jim Henderson threw his support behind the ‘Untitled’ idea. Owner of the world’s largest independent record store Amoeba, Henderson offers music lovers every kind of music from the top 40, to the best in underground rock, hip-hop, soul, electronic, new and classic jazz, from his stores in San Francisco and Hollywood. “As with our amoeba stores and amoeba.com,” explains Jim Henderson, “asos represents a local and global culture with style, drawing from, but not flaunting, its expertise. This particular project is introducing its users to new concepts and ideas, bringing an awareness of others who strive for expertise in their fields.” Amoeba’s leading vinyl-buying expert, Rick Frystak, selected the records for the project, choosing rare vinyl albums from multiple eras, genres and styles.

“Some Girls” vinyl by the Rolling Stones: £10

London-based fashion writer and author of ‘Modern Menswear’, Hywel Davies approached new international menswear designers, and commissioned them to design limited edition garments especially for the 'Untitled' project. Swedish Patrik Soderstam, a graduate from Central Saint Martins, who describes himself as a clothes maker and multi-talent, has designed 5 different limited edition graphic t-shirts which are both bold and dynamic. Berlin-based Carola Euler offers a grey pleat front sweatshirt combining her utilitarian design approach for this project. Another Berlin designer, Frank Leder has handmade wool scarves and combined his obsession with historical Germany but applying vintage enamel badges. London-based Jean-Pierre Braganza contrasts with expertly cut patterns that emphasise the human figure and offer unexpected detailing – he offers low crotch, slim leg black wool trousers with leather panel detail for this project. Deryck Walker completes the group with his new take on the white shirt, utilising his intricate pattern cutting and attention to detail.

Patrik Soderstam t-shirt: £50

On-line trainer store Crooked Tongues has been selling hard-to-find trainers since 2000, and was enlisted to attract all trainer geeks. Highlights of their selection include the Adidas 35th Superstar, which was the culmination of the celebrations surrounding 35 years of the Shelltoe. As Charlie Morgan from Crooked Tongue explains, “It's an iconic design that's timeless and needs little introduction, but as the final release of 35, only a tiny run was released to friends of Adidas. The materials and packaging are incredible, and while few pieces maintain their original appeal, these are still something of a benchmark in how you present a premium, rare release.”

Nike SB “What The Dunk” trainers £750

asos.com is going to radical measures to offer directional and exclusive products for their customers. The project confirms asos.com menswear as a trend-setting and opinion-forming brand, offering exciting and cool products to their style-savvy shoppers. The Untitled collections launch on 16th October, but act quickly, as product is, of course, strictly limited edition.
