Action-packed Sherlock Holmes novel finally reveals the truth behind the sinking of the Titanic

London – 14th June 2019 – The novel, ‘Sherlock Holmes and the great Titanic mystery,’ was published today on Amazon. The author, Valentine Palmer, is a leading authority on the loss of the Titanic, as his great uncle, Charles Herbert Lightoller, was the only senior officer to survive the sinking.

The 14th June 2019 is the 108th anniversary of the maiden voyage of Titanic’s sister ship, RMS Olympic. This date was chosen for the launch of this gripping novel in which Sherlock Holmes reveals the role played by Olympic in the hitherto unacknowledged secret of Titanic’s tragic loss.

"I wanted to involve Sherlock in a real crime that took place at a real time. I also wanted to present a fast-paced action-filled tale for 21st-century readers. Think, Sherlock Holmes meets Jason Bourne!", says author, Valentine Palmer.

‘Sherlock Holmes and the great Titanic mystery,’ takes the reader on a white-knuckle ride from New York to Paris and from Northern Ireland to the banks of the river Reine. The great detective then comes face to face with his arch enemy, Professor Moriarty, on board a ‘ghost ship’ that holds the secret to the Titanic’s last moments. Finally, it is on his own doorstep at 221b Baker Street, that Sherlock Holmes is shot and almost killed, but recovers sufficiently to discover what really happened to the Titanic, a truth too terrible to ever reveal.

The novel is available through Amazon in both paperback and Kindle form:

About the author:
Valentine Palmer recalled his great uncle, second officer Lightoller, in his 2012 book, commissioned to celebrate 100 years since the Titanic’s loss. In his extensive research for his book, Palmer unearthed what, for him, appeared to be conclusive evidence of a giant maritime fraud.  His media appearances to speak of this, plus his various talks to interested groups, always lead to a wide division of opinion. A TV actor in almost 100 famous series, including Dr Who, he has also been a screenwriter and Hollywood script man.

Memorial Park Bench for Nicky Hopkins "Rock's Greatest Session Man" to be Unveiled in London

Fans now have a chance to be one of 340 names listed on the world's only Nicky Hopkins memorial for a pledge of £100.

London - 17th May 2018 - Nicky Hopkins (1944-1994), considered by many to be one of the greatest session rock musicians of all time, will be honoured with a memorial park bench at his birthplace of Perivale, Ealing, London. At 12 noon on Saturday 8th September 2018 in Perivale Park, the bench will be unveiled by his widow, Moira Hopkins in the presence of the Mayor of Ealing.

Nicky recorded and performed with many of the world's most well-known artists of the 1960s to the 1990s including the Rolling Stones, the Beatles, John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, Ringo Starr, Jeff Beck, Rod Stewart, David Bowie, Ella Fitzgerald, Art Garfunkel, The Kinks, The Who... the list goes on and on.

Celebrating Nicky's life, the seat of the bench will look like a large piano keyboard while the backrest will display photographs of Nicky, his biography, the top 20 tracks he played on as chosen by his fans, as well as a quote from Bob Harris.

The bench is being crowdfunded through PledgeMusic, the online direct-to-fan music platform. From 12 noon BST on Monday 21st May 2018, for a pledge of £100 via https://www.pledgemusic.com/projects/nicky-hopkins, Nicky Hopkins fans can be a part of the world's only Nicky Hopkins memorial by having their name listed on the reverse side of the backrest, for posterity. Their pledge will also allow them to put forward, via PledgeMusic's Update tab, their favourite Nicky Hopkins tracks to be considered for the Top 20 Tracks that will be listed on the bench. The Nicky Hopkins page on PledgeMusic will go live at 12 noon BST on Monday 21st May 2018.

Pledging will end at 12 noon BST on Saturday 30th June 2018 or when all 340 name places are taken. Once the bench and admin costs are covered, all proceeds will go towards funding a music scholarship at London's Royal Academy of Music. Nicky himself won a scholarship at the Royal Academy in the 1950s.

The decision to honour Nicky in this way was that of Gray Levett, Nicky's former personal manager, and John Wood, a devout Nicky Hopkins fan.

Gray Levett: "It's unbelievable to think that Nicky won no awards for his stellar contribution to the music industry. Many fans feel, as do I, that he is the ultimate unsung rock hero and that he definitely deserves to be included in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. We hope this memorial will go some way towards acknowledging Nicky for his extraordinary talent. We're hoping that his bench will find its way onto London's rock tourist circuit, attracting fans from all over the world."
Nicky Hopkins
© Ossi Baumeister

The wording to be inscribed on the bench (manufactured by Furnitubes International Ltd and designed by Jesse Wilson of Beyond Media) is as follows:

Biography:
Nicky Hopkins, born Nicholas Christian Hopkins in Perivale, Middlesex (February 24, 1944 - September 6, 1994) was an English pianist and organist. He received a scholarship to the prestigious Royal Academy of Music in London; though classically trained at the Academy, it was his discovery of rock and roll, and Chuck Berry in particular, that led him to develop his own sense and style of boogie technique. He recorded and performed on some of the most significant British and American popular music recordings from the 1960s to the 1990s, and is widely regarded as one of the most important session musicians in rock history, perhaps even the most important. It is an almost impossible act to quantify his near-immeasurable contribution to songs and albums so many of us know and love. Indeed his performances are part of the fabric of classic rock itself. His almost magical ability on the keyboards enabled him to weave just the right sequence of notes, which Mick Jagger acknowledged when he said, “Come on, Nicky, give us some Diamond Tiaras!”. Diamond Tiaras were, of course, what Nicky always produced.

Central section:
ROCK'S GREATEST SESSION MAN • 1944 - 1994
This bench celebrates the life of Nicky Hopkins, with love from his fans • Saturday 8th September 2018

"When Nicky sat at the piano, each take would be breathtaking and each one different from the last. He was a truly creative and dedicated musician, modest, quiet, wonderful to work with and never given to overstatement... all his work had an indefinable magic that shines out of the grooves."
- Bob Harris

Created by Gray Levett and John Wood. Designed by Jesse Wilson. With special thanks to Moira Hopkins, Furnitubes International Ltd and Ealing Council.

Top 20 tracks section:
Top 20 tracks featuring Nicky, as chosen by his fans

(The list that will finally appear here on the bench will be announced after pledging ends at 12 noon BST on Saturday 30th June 2018. The list of tracks shown in the artwork above is for illustration purposes only).

Exclusively-Nikon Grays of Westminster Becomes the First Camera Shop in the World to be Granted a Coat of Arms

Mr. Robert Noel, Lancaster Herald of Her Majesty's College of Arms, presented the Coat of Arms to Gray Levett, founder of Grays of Westminster at a celebratory dinner held at the Institute of Directors in Pall Mall, London on 29th October 2014.

London - Grays of Westminster, the multi-award winning, exclusively-Nikon camera shop, renowned world-wide for its exemplary level of customer service, has become the first camera shop in the world to be granted a Coat of Arms.

Mr. Robert Noel, Lancaster Herald of Her Majesty's College of Arms, presented the Coat of Arms to Gray Levett, founder of Grays of Westminster at a celebratory dinner held at the Institute of Directors in Pall Mall, London on 29th October 2014.

The Grays of Westminster Coat of Arms: "Lead in Order to Serve"
Distinguished guests at the dinner included Andrew Main Wilson, Chief Executive of the Association of MBAs, who gave the introduction, Mike Maloney OBE, Britain’s most decorated press photographer, representatives from Nikon Japan, Nikon UK and Nikon Germany, as well as journalists from the national and photographic press. Also joining the celebration were a number of Grays of Westminster’s clients, several of whom had travelled from Australia and Dubai to be part of the celebration.

Grays of Westminster founder, Gray Levett
For any person or organisation to have a legal right to a Coat of Arms, it has to be granted to them by England’s Earl Marshal, the 18th Duke of Norfolk, through the Herald at the College of Arms in London. Heralds are appointed by The Queen and are delegated to act on her behalf in all concerns of heraldry and the granting of new Coats of Arms. To be the recipient of this honour, the criteria that is taken into account before a Coat of Arms is granted might include awards or honours from the Crown, public and charitable services or eminence and good standing in national or local life.

The College of Arms worked closely with Gray Levett throughout the design process to create a Coat of Arms that was personal to Grays of Westminster and one which would visually identify their role in the photographic industry. It is painted on vellum using ink and 22-carat gold paint decorated by a herald painter, with the text written by a scrivener, the whole process taking a year to create. The College of Arms maintains an ancient English tradition of manuscript writing and illumination which can be traced back to early monastic scriptoria.

Heraldic Description of the Grays of Westminster Coat of Arms

The symbolism within the image depicts a Lion (Gray Levett) amicably communing with the bird of Japan, the green pheasant. The mural crown around the lion's neck stands for responsibility to the public. Its right paw is resting on a camera lens. The cornucopia representing flourishing growth is replenished with flowers that represent various facets of Grays of Westminster and Japan. The tip of the horn has been modelled into an emblematic portcullis for Westminster. The rays of light emanating behind the flowers symbolise the derivation of the word photography, which means photo = light + graphy = writing. The rationale of the badge is an occidental phoenix with two heads for looking both east and west. It bears the motto:

Lead in Order to Serve (Praesis ut Prosis)

The crest, helmet, shield, motto and badge
of Grays of Westminster's Coat of Arms
On receiving the Coat of Arms, Gray Levett said:

“I am deeply honoured to receive this singular recognition for Grays of Westminster at the Institute of Directors tonight in the presence of so many key figures of our profession. To be acknowledged by Her Majesty's College of Arms is something very, very special, and the Coat of Arms will serve as an enduring inspiration for me to continue to offer the very best in service to our Nikon customers.”

Gargantuan Wide-Angle Lens with a £100,000 Price Tag Goes On Sale at Grays of Westminster

The rare Nikon fisheye lens is said to be able to ‘see behind itself’, it weighs 5.2kg and measures 171mm in length with a diameter of 236mm

London – One of the few 220º Nikkor fisheye lenses ever made is now available for purchase and is looking for a buyer at London’s Nikon-only reseller, Grays of Westminster.

Nikon stunned the photographic world at Photokina in 1970 by introducing the 220º fisheye Nikkor with an astonishing speed of f/2.8. It is the world’s most extreme wide-angle lens to cover the 24 x 36mm image area (at the time) with a massive glass dome which dwarfs the camera attached. The 6mm is for scientific and industrial applications and special effects when shooting portraits, architecture and interiors, etc.

Lens production began in March 1972 and it was only made available to special order. This lens’s technical specifications are:
  • 6mm f/2.8 Fisheye-Nikkor lens
  • Serial no: 628024
  • Lens construction: 12 elements in 9 groups
  • Picture angle: 220º
  • Diaphragm: Automatic
  • Aperture scale: f/2.8-f/22 on both standard and aperture-direct-readout scales
  • Weight: 5200g

  • Front lens cap: Slip-on, delivered in a rugged metal case.
  • Condition: MINT
  • Price: £100,000

Founder Gray Levett said, "The background of this immense lens is that our vintage camera buyer Toni Kowal spent six months tracking it down from overseas, and we were fortunate to be able to find this example in such pristine condition. The lens was photographed by master photographer Tony Hurst. It is a stunning example of the optical expertise of the engineers and designers at Nikon."

Top London Charity Fashion Show “Curves in Couture” to Raise Funds for the Advance Centre

18-year-old Tatijana Hall-Roberts who will be exhibiting her designs at the show, is now able to pursue a career in fashion thanks to the Advance Centre for The Scotson Technique

London – On 17 November 2011 at the Tabernacle, London, a fashion show with a difference will take place in aid of the East Grinstead-based Advance Centre for The Scotson Technique, a charity that helps children with cerebral palsy, autism and other neurological conditions.

Top model Kelly Knox, winner of “Britain's Missing Top Model”, and stunning Dutch beauty Debbie Van Der Putten will walk in the “Diversity Show” http://www.modelsofdiversity.org/diversityshow and “Curves in Couture” http://www.modelsofdiversity.org/curvesincouture catwalk show sponsored by Models of Diversity (MoD). All proceeds from the event will aid MoD’s sponsored charity, The Advance Centre. Caroline Rush, CEO of the British Fashion Council (BFC), will attend the event. Both Sky TV and The Dish Network, North America’s third largest cable company, will be making documentaries about “Diversity Show” and “Curves in Couture”, which celebrate healthy models of all ability levels, shapes, races and ages.

Tatijana Hall-Roberts

Thanks to The Advance Centre for The Scotson Technique, 18-year-old Tatijana Hall-Roberts from Thurston in Suffolk is now able to pursue a career in fashion. Tatijana will be both displaying her designs and available for interview during the evening together with Linda Scotson, founder of the charity.

Within months of her birth, it became apparent that there was something different about Tatijana. It was only when she had a severe convulsions at 11 months old, that the complexity of her epilepsy began to reveal itself. At two, she regressed and was no longer able to speak and hid in the corner, and her convulsions continued.

Over the next 11 years, Tatijana had continual periods of blue light journeys to hospital, and even with the high dose of the anti-epileptic medicines, continued to have a variety of seizures. Then, a chance stumble across a website for autistic children connected Tatijana’s mother, Tracey, with The Advance Centre and the amazing work that Linda Scotson does with children with brain injuries. It was perfect timing, as at that point the only option the doctors could offer was extensive brain surgery to remove the scarred area of her brain. However it was not without risks and there was a chance that her seizures could get worse.

Instead, Tatijana received treatment from Linda in the latter part of her last year at this school and within weeks of starting The Scotson Technique therapy (TST), her seizure rate decreased dramatically. Tracey Clewer, Tatijana’s mother said, “She had so much more energy, she was able to keep up with conversations again, she began to develop a sense of humour and slimmed down into a lovely well toned hourglass shape. Her skin tone changed from a mottled pale colour to a clear complexion. Her eyes gained a real sparkle to them too.

“In her second year at college, Tatijana elected to major in Textiles and Fashion. TST allowed her to achieve so much more than anyone could have imagined. She ended the year as a prize-winner and achieved high grades which enabled her to get one of only 45 places to study Fashion at Norwich University College of the Arts.

“The gains we have seen over the past two years and the sustained reduction in her seizures and the improvements in her cognitive and neural capacities lay squarely at the feet of the wonderful work Linda Scotson has done through working with Tatijana and in Tatijana doing her TST therapy. Tatijana’s future looks very bright and we have so much to thank Linda Scotson and her team for.”

Linda Scotson, founder of The Advance Centre, said, “I am so happy to have been able to help Tatijana and allow her to work where her heart lies - in fashion. She is a very talented young lady and the fashion world is very lucky to have her. And we are so grateful to Angel Sinclair and her Models of Diversity for putting on this amazing fashion show to help raise funds for us so we can help more children like Tatijana.”

The Advance Centre is a teaching institute for parents with brain-damaged children. From its creation in 1996, the charity has dedicated itself to finding a way to not only advance the abilities of children with cerebral palsy and other brain injuries, but to actually reverse the structural and functional abnormalities. Linda Scotson is the Founder of the Advance Centre for The Scotson Technique. http://www.advancecentres.com

Models of Diversity is a London-based non-profit organization which advocates for more diversity in models, and demands that the fashion and marketing industries recognise the beauty in women and men of all races, ages, shapes, sizes, abilities, genders and sexual orientations. Their mission is to change the face of fashion and modeling. MoD is a campaign founded to stand for equal rights and opportunities within the modelling and fashion industry. MoD is officially supported by the British Fashion Council and has joined with Equalities Minister Lynne Featherstone for the government’s campaign on body confidence. http://www.modelsofdiversity.org

Nikon Awards Crystal Trophy to Grays of Westminster for 25 Years of Outstanding Contribution to Nikon Users

Nikon UK Award from Grays of Westminster
Nikon UK awards Nikon-only dealer, Grays of Westminster, for its outstanding contribution to Nikon users at the company’s gala luncheon at The Goring, the exclusive five-star hotel in Belgravia where Kate Middleton stayed before her marriage to Prince William

London - On Tuesday 26th July, Grays of Westminster, the legendary Nikon dealer, was presented with a stunning, heavy crystal trophy by the Managing Director of Nikon UK, Mr. Michio Miwa, during a celebratory luncheon at the exclusive Belgravia, London hotel, The Goring.

The trophy, which features a 3D image of the legendary Nikon F camera laser-etched into the award, reads:

“Presented to Grays of Westminster to celebrate their 25th Anniversary and their outstanding contribution to Nikon users.” – Nikon UK Limited

Grays of Westminster was founded a quarter of a century ago by Gray Levett who had the idea of creating a world-class camera store which would offer a service, second to none. The concept began to take shape and ultimately came to life as Grays of Westminster.

In a letter to Gray Levett, Mr. Makota Kimura, the President of the Nikon Corporation, Japan wrote: “Grays of Westminster is a well-known and respected business that has become almost a household name amongst professional photographers during the past twenty-five years. This is no doubt a result of your commitment to your customers and understanding of the Nikon brand.

“I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate you on such a momentous occasion and would like to express our gratitude for your support of the Nikon brand. I am looking forward to a continued mutually beneficial relationship during the coming years.”

The distinguished actor David Suchet CBE and long-term customer sent a message with his regrets, “Thanks so much, but sadly can't be with you, filming Great Expectations for the BBC, playing Jaggers. Have a wonderful celebration. Congratulations!!! Love David.”

Amongst those taking part in the celebrations was Richard Young, the UK’s most successful celebrity photographer; Mike Maloney OBE, Britain’s most decorated press photographer; Andrew Main Wilson, Chief Operating Officer of the IoD (Institute of Directors); founder, Gray Levett; co-director, Uri Zakay; Gillian Greenwood, Nikon Owner magazine director and author of In the Company of Legends …a history of Grays of Westminster, as well as senior staff from Nikon UK.

Receiving this award, Gray Levett said: “This is a significant moment in our history. I am delighted and honoured to receive this beautiful crystal trophy from Nikon. Grays of Westminster started a quarter of a century ago from humble beginnings with just £100 and no stock to speak of; to be accepting this award in the grand surroundings of The Goring today is something I could have hardly imagined.

“Grays of Westminster has what is probably the widest range of new, second-hand and vintage Nikon in the world. From the very beginning we aimed at offering our customers the very best service and the finest in Nikon equipment. This tradition continues today. The fact that we have survived over the last twenty-five years has been made possible by our very loyal customers, the hard work of all of our staff and our strong relationship with Nikon UK and Nikon Japan.”
